Yet another fantastic Grouse Grind challenge was held July 15th during the Evergreen Summer Doubles Tournament.
It was a classic evening, smoking hot and a good turn out — just under 20 for this year.
Most of you know the rules — just guess your time, and the closest to their guesstimate wins.
Lisa Norlander
– estimated time at 53:50 and did it in 53:34.
Matt Dorling
– estimated 44:00 and did it in 44:43.
Each receiving an annual pass to Grouse Mountain.
Husband & wife team of Sue Alcock
– estimated time at 75:00 and did it in 74:00;, and
Peter Gray
– estimated time at 75:00 and did it in 73:31.
They earned themselves a killer pair of Dakine hydration packs.
We raised over $500.00 for the North Shore Search and Rescue. Which, as always, will be presented in memory of our great friend Denis Fontaine.
For those of you that did not know Denis, he was one of our most amazing athletes. Not only was he a great squash player; but, he was an even more amazing adventurer. When it came to the outdoors, there was not much that Denis had not done. The great outdoors finally took its toll on him; but, I know that when that day came, Denis was just living the dream — and unlike most of us he did more than just dream.
He lived it — he did it — and he is sadly missed,
but will never be forgotten.
As always to Grouse Mountain and Kirsten Heal for once again keeping us fit; to Michael Costigan of Dakine for the means to stay hydrated; and to Gordon Truscott of Clif Bar for a cycle jersey, and a box of Clif Bloks.
A special thanks to Mark Perry of Kerrisdale Lumber who donated $200.00. They may be over the water for many of us; but, they are a great company to deal with and well worth the trip should any of you feel the need to renovate or just build a few shelves. Give them a call.
Once again, thank you to everyone who participated in, and/or, supported this event. I hope you got as much out of it as I did.
