Letter to Evergreen Members — December 9, 2009
Viktor Berg Awarded
Comfort Inn Wildcard Entry
We just wanted to give everyone a Christmas reminder that the Evergreen Squash Club will again be hosting the ‟2010 Comfort Inn Squash Championships” during the January 12-17, 2010 period.
It will be a great opportunity to work off the Christmas turkey and the New Year’s celebrations as we are featuring Men’s, Women’s & Junior’s events in addition to a US$20,000 PSA draw. The Squash BC website is now accepting entries.
As a PSA update, with a week to go before the PSA registration deadline passes, forty-one PSA players have indicated an interest in playing in the tournament. Twenty-four players are ranked #95 or better with eleven players ranked #48 or better. Although the draw will change considerably in the next week or so, as players decide where they are going to play, the ninth player in last year’s draw was ranked #51. So we are optimistic that we will again have a very strong draw.
Tarek Momen from Egypt, and last year’s 2009 Comfort Inn Open finalist, is ranked #25 and leads the draw, at this point. M.A. Rodriguez (Col), #27, and former Comfort Inn champions, Renan Lavigne (#30), of France, & Canada’s #1 player, Shahier Razik (#31) are also entered.
And, as a special local treat, the very popular Viktor Berg, BC’s #1 singles player, World #1 doubles player and former Canadian Junior & Senior National Team member, will be in the main draw as the ‟wildcard” entry.
So, think about giving yourself, or someone close to you, a nice Christmas present by entering the tournament — enter via the Squash BC website - or being a Patron ($175.00) or Benefactor ($100.00). Call the undersigned for details.
By the way, all tournament entrants will receive a General Admission ticket for the quarter final PSA matches on Friday evening as part of their tournament entry fee — the general public will be charged the regular $20.00 fee.
Have a very Merry Christmas and we hope to see you in January!!!!
