2009 Evergreen International Tournament

Summary

The Evergreen International tourney has come and gone, and a lot of fun was had by all.

The highlight, as always, was the fantastic Five Star dinner. Hats off to the Isle of Bad Manners - forgetting about the squash, and sweeping the all important categories of table decor (Charles Bristow & Pam Brunswick), main dish (Maureen Goulet), dessert (Monica Beaumont — narrowly dethroning Helen Chow), and the joke telling (Julian Taylor). We're not quite sure what Scott Sibley contributed, but he was also on the team.

Some felt that the Isle of Bad Manners should have delivered another infamous "shame on you" speech to the other teams gathered, seeing as the international culinary awards were won by a British team. The lone representative (shameful) from the Commitments, Doug MacDougall, did his team proud by winning the appetizer competition. It should be noted that the Commitments were not the smallest contingent. That dubious distinction was awarded to South Africa.

Finally, the least important category, squash, was won by Die Englische Rosen. We only mention this, as they will be hosting the tourney next year.

Congratulations to last year's winners, the Polish Swim Team, who succeeded in not repeating as champions, and more importantly, hosting a fantastic event. Led by Phil Beaty and Brian Maclean, this year included the new items of the Paper Airplane Toss and the Pancake Breakfast.

See you again next year!
