VDSL 2009–10 Season

Week of November 25th

This week’s blurb again courtesy of Lynn Broman.

If you'd like to take a shot, send your comments to Lynn Broman, or Rick Kochanski.

Division 1

Captain Tim took a well deserved break (thanks Tim for a great show at Evergreen for the Westerns).

Patrick Au and Mark Heaney (fresh off his outstanding performance in the Westerns) went to OP in the first game but Geoff Williams and Nigel Amon could not keep up with the Evergreen duo in the 2nd and 3rd games. 3/0.

Andrew Smart and Scott Kidd provided a good serving of heat in the second match and logged a 3/1 victory over Brian Covernton and Mike Carrier.

A good 8/1 night for Tim and the boys.

Division 2

Les Kerluke and Alicia Haneine recorded a 3/0 over the tough son and pops team of Kevin and Robbie Johnson.

Kevin Gillett and new guy on the block, Stephen Roberts, had a 3/2 win over Gary Bombay and Sue Kaffka. An all Evergreen affair but it is nice to see the 8/2 points for the Evergreen squad and retain #1 spot in Div 2.

The Fishin’ Boys were idle this week with a bye.

Division 3

The Muckers had sweet revenge trouncing SPC 3/0 and 3/0. Eddie the Eagle and Broman surrendered 4, 6, and 8 points to Don Beall and Laurie Owen. Doug MacDougall and Brian G’Day Gaffney handled Gord Fleming and Warren Woodman in three straight, just 21 points in 3 games. 8/0 night for the Muckers.

In spite of getting the usually fine services of Scott Kidd to look after our pizzas, they all arrived well blackened. I understand that is the fashion these days, burn the food, call it charred, and scrape off the really burnt bits.

All because of this culinary episode, Phil Arthur had to cancel his lessons because the smoke upstairs was so thick he couldn’t see to the bottom of court 3. Thank goodness our smoke detectors don’t work.

Update

The Gringos were hosted by Hollyburn on November 25th. The Gringos picked up some points but allowed Hollyburn to log a full quota of 8 points.

Bill James (captain) and Joe Lopes edged out Captain Windmill and the almost recovered Boyd Muir in 5. Dave Canning and Chris Davies also won in 5 over Paul Austin and Greg Charalambous. Will reports that the total points were a draw, but too bad that doesn’t count for much this time.

Hollyburn looks in good shape but they have a bye (no points) coming up. Muckers and Gringos have a date deferred match coming up on Dec 16th, so some points for Evergreen no matter what.

Division 4

Gordon Bitney, wearing the Lawn colours, teamed up with Gary Macey for a 3/1 win over VRC’s Monty Wood and Wayne Maunder.

Mike the Tool and his mob continued their winning ways with Iain Savill and Derek Andrew beating Rob Mooij and Costa Penn in 3. Captain Mike with the aide of Sprightly Springer had a 3/1 win over Shelley Neal and Bill Akam.
