Evergreen Squash Club — Pure Squash

Juniors welcome!

An Evergreen Squash Club membership is one terrific value.

Have a child at home, who is, perhaps, too small for hockey, football, rugby or basketball. Do not despair. Squash could be the game you are looking for.

Squash builds fitness, mental toughness, and helps create an attitude of success in everyone who takes up the sport. There is a learning curve involved; but, Evergreen Squash Club has the coaches and support required to make the endeavour successful.

Junior members at Evergreen Squash Club have been involved in a successful junior program for many years.

For more information, contact our Junior Director, Alicia Haneine using our online form.

Vancouver Doubles Squash League

2009–10 Season

VDSL Chatter

Lynn Broman has taken it upon himself to keep the Evergreen Squash Club membership apprised of the performance of the club's teams.

Have a look at:
Week of September 30th, or
Week of October 7th.

The League

Evergreen participates in the Vancouver Doubles Squash League, along with Hollyburn Country Club, Vancouver Racquets Club, Sport Central, and our cross-town rivals, the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club. These five clubs set aside their doubles court each Wednesday of the season, typically October through April, from 6 PM to 10 PM for league play.

Over the last few seasons, the league has been modifying its structure to accomodate a new club, Sport Central, and to try and make the league more accessible to players at all skill levels and gender.

In the 2007–08 season, teams were reduced to two pairs (four players per night), and ranked into 4 divisions. Div 1, comprising mostly open level players, being at the top of the heap.

Last season we had more women playing in the league than ever before. We have also seen more mixed pairs participating. So, there is progress towards at least one of the goals the league set for itself when reorganizing.

Ruth Castellino, a member at Vancouver Lawn, has also been organizing a 'Ladies Only' doubles league over the last few seasons.

So, there is little or no reason any doubles player, who wishes to do so, can not participate in intra-city league play.

Join In

Any members wishing to participate should contact their captain from last season; or, if new to the league, contact Tim Martin. Please note that a current Squash BC membership is required in order to participate in the league.

Schedules and Results

Since the 2007 season, the Vancouver Doubles Squash League has contracted with Quick-Draws.com to manage scheduling the season's matches, and to provide for the recording and displaying of results on-line. This is the same system used by the Vancouver Singles Squash League.

Unfortunately, the system was not written to consider the vagaries of scheduling doubles matches and/or tournaments in the Lower Mainland. The key one being the limited availability of courts and court-time for the total number of matches to be played.

So, Lynn Broman, taking the Quick-Draws schedule as a starting point, applies his considerable creativity to finalize the 'official' schedule for each night of the season. The 'modified' schedules are made available on the Quick Draws/VDSL web-site.

You can also check out match results and the current standings at the site. Just follow the menues.

League Updates

Sport Central tries to post all league updates in a timely fashion on their web site. If you are playing in the VDSL or interested in doing so, you should have a look at this season's updates.
